Κάθησε αναπαυτικά στην καρέκλα του γραφείου του. Είχε πολύ ώρα να καθήσει και το είχε ανάγκη. Έπιασε στα χέρια την φωτογραφία της γυναίκας του. Την θυμάται αυτή τη φωτογραφία πολύ καλά. Εκείνος την είχε τραβήξει πριν από δέκα περίπου χρόνια. Τον είχε κουράσει πάρα πολύ. Έκανε γκριμάτσες, η άτιμη… Δεν θα το ξεχάσει ποτέ εκείνο το ταξίδι.
Έπρεπε να λείψει για μια εβδομάδα. Επαγγελματικό ταξίδι. Ένα συνέδριο γινόταν στην πιο δύσκολη περίοδο. Δύσκολη, γιατί ακόμη τα πράγματα μεταξύ τους, δεν ήταν πολύ ξεκάθαρα…
– Θα λείψω μια εβδομάδα. Το συνέδριο τελειώνει το Σάββατο, αλλά δεν βρήκα αεροπλάνο και θα επιστρέψω Κυριακή βράδυ.
– Ζηλεύω. Κοίτα να περάσεις καλά. Να μορφωθείς αλλά πρόσεξε… μην παραμορφωθείς.
Γελάσανε. Ήθελε να της προτείνει να πάει μαζί του. Ήξερε όμως ότι αυτό ήταν αδύνατο. Θα περνούσε την πιο δύσκολη εβδομάδα. Την έπαιρνε κάθε μέρα τηλέφωνο. Μιλούσαν με τις ώρες. Της έλεγε τα πάντα για το συνέδριο γιατί φοβόταν μη τα ξεχάσει… Τώρα που το σκέφτομαι, πιο γελοία δικαιολογία δε μπορούσα να σκεφτώ;
Την Κυριακή θα έκανε μόνος του βόλτες… Θα περίμενε να περάσουν οι ώρες για να μπει στο αεροπλάνο της επιστροφής. Της ζήτησε να πάει στο αεροδρόμιο και εκείνη αρνήθηκε. Είχε κανονίσει να πάει σινεμά. Τσαντίστηκε. Τα έβαλε με τον εαυτό του.
– Έδωσα παραπάνω αξία. Προτιμά να μη χάσει την έξοδό της.
Το Σάββατο δεν την πήρε τηλέφωνο. Ούτε και εκείνη. Βγήκε για ένα ποτό. 5 έγιναν τελικά. Ούτε που κατάλαβε πως έφτασε στο δωμάτιο. Το πρωί χτυπάει το τηλέφωνο.
– Φτου! Ξέχασα να πω να μη με ξυπνήσουν σήμερα νωρίς.
Το σηκώνει και το κλείνει αμέσως. Λίγο αργότερα χτυπάει η πόρτα. Σηκώνεται και ανοίγει…
– Καλημέρα! Μου έλειψες…
Δεν πίστευε στα μάτια του. Κοίταξε το ρολόι του. Την αγκάλιασε.
– Ετοιμάσου! Έχουμε μόνο 12 ώρες μπροστά μας και πρέπει να δούμε τα πάντα.
Κάπου εκεί στο πλακόστρωτο ήταν ο ζωγράφος. Κάθησε να την ζωγραφήσει. Μάταια προσπαθούσε ο κακομοίρης να την πείσει να μην κουνιέται. Μόλις τελείωσε το πορτραίτο, προσπάθησε να την φωτογραφίσει. Εκεί δίπλα στην γέφυρα.
Θυμήθηκε το πρωινό τους καυγαδάκι. Τώρα του φαινόταν μια ανόητη σκέψη…
Έπιασε το τηλέφωνο στα χέρια του.
– Ανθοπωλείο “…..” εκεί; Το καρτάκι θα σας το φέρω εγώ σε λίγο.
“Το βράδυ, στις 8 να είσαι στην πλατεία… Έχεις ραντεβού!”
